Capital City Farmers Market

164-206 US-2, Montpelier, VT 05602, USA
164-206 US-2, Montpelier, VT 05602, USA

Brief Event Description:

The Capital City Farmers Market moves to State Street in downtown Montpelier this year. Shop from 50 local farms and producers all season long, rain or shine. All products are grown or hand made by vendors from Central Vermont. Featuring live music through September.

www.montpelierfarmersmarket. com

Full State Street Move Information:

This year is the Capital City Farmers Market’s 41st season, and there will be some big changes. Our outdoor market will be held at a new location on State Street in downtown Montpelier this year. We trialed this location last Fall for three market days, and it was a huge success. State Street will be shut down between Main St. and Elm St. on market days which makes for an easily walkable downtown area. Our regular market lot will be open for parking, which will be a net gain of parking spots compared to what we take up on the Street.

The market itself will offer the same great vendor mix that makes the market such a fun destination for locals and visitors to the area. We feature over 65 full time and seasonal vendors from Central Vermont that grow or make 100% of the products they sell. This includes everything from seasonal produce to small batch cheese and one of a kind crafts. The majority of our vendors this season are returning vendors, but we do have some new craft and local food vendors that will be at the market part time.

The outdoor market begins May 5th, during Montpelier’s May Day festivities. The market is open from 9:00 to 1:00 every Saturday from May through October. Our live music series begins May 19th and runs all Summer long. People can stay up to date on market vendors, music, and events by following us on Facebook, signing up for our weekly newsletter, or going to montpelierfarmersmarket.com

Tribalism: a model for 21st-century community:
North America’s indigenous cultures have much to offer contemporary society for how to form and maintain communities. Seth Godin adopted some of these ideas for business and marketing in his book Tribes, but the reality transcends even what he understood. We start with the idea of circles – the horizon, tipis in a camp arranged in a circle, the circle that is the inipikaga (revitalization lodge), the circle that is the Sundance arbor. Circles minimize hierarchy and allow all to look at each other. Circles form around hocokahs or altars, which draw the people to them. In this presentation, we explore indigenous concepts for forming and maintaining communities and how these concepts can be incorporated into mainstream society.

Finding love can be hard for anyone, but for those with an autism spectrum disorder, the challenges may seem overwhelming. Autism in Love offers a warm and stereotype-shattering look at four people as they pursue and manage romantic relationships.

Neurodiversity is an approach to learning and disability that argues diverse neurological conditions can be the result of normal variations in the human genome. It helps to frame learning challenges as differences rather than as deficits. In Focus is a documentary series focusing on relevant social themes and environmental themes. Presented by WonderArts in partnership with the Vermont Learning Support Initiative, this season we are screening three films that highlight neurological differences. Local experts and community leaders facilitate post-film conversations that provide the tools and understanding for how to create positive change in our community through education, outreach, and action.

Despite a reputation for tricky identification, shorebirds can be demystified with a few simple strategies. We will learn about the fascinating lives of these birds, from phalaropes which reverse traditional gender roles, to godwits which make the most grueling avian migration on earth. The 30 or so species regularly encountered in Vermont will be reviewed, as well as a few others that can be found within a days drive. There will be something for everyone in this talk, from the novice shorebirder wanting to learn the basics to the seasoned watcher hoping to brush up on their skills. Capital City Farmers Market

164-206 US-2, Montpelier, VT 05602, USA

1536 Royalton Turnpike, South Royalton, VT 05068, USA

In celebration of their first decade venturing as Fable Farm, they’ll  be firing up the hearth and offering farm-fresh flatbreads like the good ol’ days, but this time with fresh oysters! In the spirit of collaboration, they’re teaming up with  Peter Varkonyi and Lauren Stevens of Butcher & Pantry, a new community marketplace and butcher shop about to open in the original general store of Brownsville, Vermont. Chef master Peter will be on the wood fired hearth cranking out flatbread jewels. They will also be partnering with Wood Mountain Fish out of Cambridge, MA to bring amazing oysters from the coast. Pizza and oysters are quite the compliment to Fable’s alpine wines/ciders, packed with  fresh acidity, minerality, and salty notes all woven together with a delightful effervescence.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 25th, and goes from 3 – 7 pm. In addition to pizzas and oysters, there will be two bars serving up all different types of their living wines/ciders–by the glass and by the bottle. This will be an indoor-outdoor event with a fire in the orchard. So come prepared to engage in some old fashioned merrymaking!

When designers consider time as a
design criteria, just as they do gravity,
weather, or materials, a building’s beauty
lasts longer than the photos. Taking
examples from across New England,
architect Duo Dickinson introduces an
approach to architecture that integrates
history into the aesthetic of creating

new structures. Free.

Refreshments served following the talk.
