Horses are amazing, sentient, gentle beings that have a way of calming the soul and bringing inner peace to one’s self.   For those who are having a hard time in the grieving process, sometimes interaction with a horse can help where other interventions have fallen short. We are offering a 7 week support group program that will meet once a week for an hour. Our intent is to keep the group small with no more than 10 participants plus volunteers and instructors. We will be able to provide referral resources if issues come up during sessions that someone would want to seek some professional guidance for.

We will be able to provide referral resources if issues come up during sessions that someone would want to seek some professional guidance for.

    www.montpelierfarmersmarket. com

    Full State Street Move Information:

This year is the Capital City Farmers Market’s 41st season, and there will be some big changes. Our outdoor market will be held at a new location on State Street in downtown Montpelier this year. We trialed this location last Fall for three market days, and it was a huge success. State Street will be shut down between Main St. and Elm St. on market days which makes for an easily walkable downtown area. Our regular market lot will be open for parking, which will be a net gain of parking spots compared to what we take up on the Street.

The market itself will offer the same great vendor mix that makes the market such a fun destination for locals and visitors to the area. We feature over 65 full time and seasonal vendors from Central Vermont that grow or make 100% of the products they sell. This includes everything from seasonal produce to small batch cheese and one of a kind crafts. The majority of our vendors this season are returning vendors, but we do have some new craft and local food vendors that will be at the market part time.

The outdoor market begins May 5th, during Montpelier’s May Day festivities. The market is open from 9:00 to 1:00 every Saturday from May through October. Our live music series begins May 19th and runs all Summer long. People can stay up to date on market vendors, music, and events by following us on Facebook, signing up for our weekly newsletter, or going to montpelierfarmersmarket.com

    Presented with The Galaxy Bookshop

Former three-term governor of Vermont Madeliene Kunin comes to the Highland Center for the Arts to read from her newest book, a memoir entitled Coming of Age: My Journey to the Eighties. The topic is aging, and she explores physical and emotional tolls and explores the emotional ones in an extraordinary life: governor, ambassador, feminist, wife, mother, professor, poet, and much, much more. As recently reported in the New York Times, a girl born today can expect to live to the age of 90, on average (boys, on the other hand, can expect to live until age 85). Life expectancy, for many, is increasing, yet people rarely contemplate the emotional changes that come alongside the physical changes of aging. Coming of Age: My Journey to the Eighties takes a close and incisive look at what it is like to grow old.

What if there were a road map for today’s adult learners? In his new book, Free-Range Learning in the Digital Age, Dr. Peter Smith explores what’s working in higher education today, and provides examples of innovative pathways to higher education success in the digital era for adult learners. On campus and online, college students have increasingly become a population of adult learners with, as Dr. Smith puts it, “hidden credentials.” These adult learners are motivated to use their background and experience, coupled with the power of technology, to earn required certifications and degrees flexibly and affordably. A big thank you to Cassie Bickford for being our playgroup facilitator for the past two years. She has done a great job and we will miss her. She needed to pass the baton to Melissa Seifert this year to pursue other endeavors.

Brief Event Description:

The Capital City Farmers Market moves to State Street in downtown Montpelier this year. Shop from 50 local farms and producers all season long, rain or shine. All products are grown or hand made by vendors from Central Vermont. Featuring live music through September.

    www.montpelierfarmersmarket.

      Brief Event Description:

The Capital City Farmers Market moves to State Street in downtown Montpelier this year. Shop from 50 local farms and producers all season long, rain or shine. All products are grown or hand made by vendors from Central Vermont. Featuring live music through September.

This class will discuss the science of why bone broth deserves most of its reputation, and how you can easily and economically make your own at home. In addition to covering the basics of how to make a good pot of broth, we will learn why gut and immune health are so intertwined and so benefited by bone broth. About half the class will be spent exploring favorite herbs to add to bone broth, with a specific focus on immune support and gut healing.

This Café will take be replacing the previous “Death Café”. We invite you to join with us in this place of comfort where we can all come together to listen, talk and share about the things in life’s cycle we are all experiencing in our own way now for ourselves and the earth we live on. There are many Cycles of Life that we each experience. Our world is in constant turmoil each day, changes are constant and sometimes difficult to understand and digest. We can look into our own life cycle and how we respond to the uncertainty that surrounds us. We urge you to come together in this safe place, a community of mutual concern. No need to register, just drop by on that day and time.

    www.montpelierfarmersmarket.

    Brief Event Description:

The Capital City Farmers Market moves to State Street in downtown Montpelier this year. Shop from 50 local farms and producers all season long, rain or shine. All products are grown or hand made by vendors from Central Vermont. Featuring live music through September.

    www.montpelierfarmersmarket.

The class will be supplemented by listening to and understanding Abenaki harvest music and dance, as well as a display of newly-harvested 2018 Abenaki crops and in-use Harvest Celebration ceremonial items. We also will have pots of Bean hole beans and a “Three Sisters” soup to try and hopefully, some new 2018 Abenaki corn to braid for exhibits at the Vermont Historical Society and the Hans Herr House Museum in Pennsylvania.
