Horses are amazing, sentient, gentle beings that have a way of calming the soul and bringing inner peace to one’s self.   For those who are having a hard time in the grieving process, sometimes interaction with a horse can help where other interventions have fallen short. We are offering a 7 week support group program that will meet once a week for an hour. Our intent is to keep the group small with no more than 10 participants plus volunteers and instructors. We will be able to provide referral resources if issues come up during sessions that someone would want to seek some professional guidance for.

Most Americans were taught that the North won and the South lost the Civil War. But what if its underlying issues were never resolved? Harvard professor John Stauffer connects the Civil War era with current events, highlighting how the South effectively won the war and why it matters.

This First Wednesdays program is sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council and hosted by Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

    Reading with Author Rick Winston

    19:00
    2018/10/03
    122 School St # 1, Marshfield, VT 05658, USA
    122 School St # 1, Marshfield, VT 05658, USA

Wednesday, October 3 at 7 pm.

Rick Winston explores some forgotten history as we see how a small, rural “rock-ribbed Republican” state with a historically libertarian streak handled the hysteria of the time. Far from the klieg lights of Washington D.C., Hollywood, and New York City, there were several fascinating stories in the Green Mountains: a high-profile academic firing, a conservative senator who helped take down Joseph McCarthy, controversies involving left-leaning summer residents, and some veteran newspaper editors who spoke out against McCarthy’s tactics. Now, as our country again experiences a political atmosphere charged with intolerance, condemnation, and widespread falsehoods, this book could not be more timely.  Copies will be available to purchase and for Rick to sign.
