    Kids’ Dance Workshops Start

    The Johnson State College Dance Club will offer a series of children’s workshops on different dance styles starting Oct. 29.

    The workshops, in the McClelland Hall dance studio on campus, will be 4-5 p.m. for kids ages 5-7 and 5-6 p.m. for kids ages 8-12 on Oct. 29, Nov. 5, Nov. 12 and Nov. 26. The total cost is $15 per child.

    Students will get an introduction to jazz, contemporary dance (ballet, lyrical and modern) and hip-hop at the workshops, a fundraiser for the student club. The last workshop will feature a showcase by students for families and friends.

    The Bereavement/Grief Support Group is open to anyone who hasexperienced the death of a loved one. There is no fee.

    The group focuses on learning together about coping with grief, with the intention of receiving and offering support. The group is informal and includes sharing of personal grief experiences. Each session is accompanied by relevant handouts, books and videos that can be borrowed for review at home.

    The United States Bone and Joint Initiative has teamed up with Better Bones of the Northeast Kingdom, a National Osteoporosis Foundation education and support group, to offer a free presentation titled “Fit to a T.”  This presentation will take place on Saturday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m. in the community room of the Community National Bank in Derby.

    Dr. Elizabeth Ames, MD, an orthopedic surgeon from the University of Vermont Medical Center, will deliver the presentation.  The key elements of the program are fracture prevention, bone health, osteoporosis and making informed decisions. This education program is called “Fit to a T” because the T-score is the measure of a person’s bone density and susceptibility to fracture.

    “Fit to a T” is a free public education program for men and women of all ages.
