Montpelier City Hall, 39 Main St, Montpelier, VT 05602, USA

Presented by Lost Nation Theater

Now you can have the chance to spend some quality time with the maverick movie star as performed by award-winning actor Janis Stevens in KATE: The Unexamined Life of Katharine Hepburn by Rick Foster.  It’s coming, Sept 7-17, at Lost Nation Theater, Montpelier City Hall Arts Center.

Katharine Hepburn, the preeminent actor – spirited, fierce, uncompromising – was an inspiration in film, on-stage, and off too. Born to a suffragette and a doctor in 1907, “Kate” became an unlikely Hollywood star in the 1930s with her beauty, wit, intelligence and the eccentric strength with which she imbued each character in a career that lasted more than six decades, earned her 13 Academy Award nominations and record-setting 4 Best Actress Oscar wins. Hepburn was legendary for wearing trousers and confounded studio executives by refusing to follow the unwritten rules for women stars. Once, the RKO costume department stole her slacks (because they were uncouth and boyish), Hepburn walked around the studio in her underwear, refusing to put her clothes on until she got her pants back. Her affectionate nickname became “The Great Kate.”

18 High St, Plainfield, VT 05667, USA

Plainfield Old Home Days starts on Friday, September 8th at 7 pm with a rolicking revue at the Plainfield Opera House and then continues all day on Saturday, September 9th with Plainfield’s unique community parade, followed by the traditional chicken barbeque and other activities at the Plainfield Recreation Field. All is free except for the chicken barbeque.

You can make yourself a bicycle smoothie, your children can play in the bouncie house, you can get local maple syrup, and learn about Plainfield’s hazard mitigation and flood prevention work, and about the Plainfield library, and coop, and senior center, participate in a rubber duck race, play volleyball and more at the rec field from 11:45 to 2 pm.

Plainfield’s Tree Warden, Niko Rubin, will take people on a Street Tree Walk from the rec field at 1:30, Rose Paul will lead an Invasive Species walk starting from the Park ‘n’ Ride at 2:30, and Susan Grimaldi will wrap up the day with a Plainfield Historical Walk starting from the Mill Street Park at 4 pm.
