Much Ado About Nothing

The production of “Much Ado about Nothing” by the Johnson State College student theater troupe won’t be your typical Shakespearean play. Their rendition will feature an experimental set, beaded camo costumes in some scenes and interaction with the audience, including singing and serving refreshments.

The play will be staged at 7 p.m. Nov. 3-5 and 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Dibden Center for the Arts. Tickets, available at the box office starting two hours before each show, will be $10 for people 11 and older and free for JSC students.

The JSC production is set in the contemporary Northeast Kingdom on a commune, as the actors prepare to throw a month-long party with large cardboard puppets and audience participation. The set will be composed mostly of pallets.

12-member ensemble will perform two of the company’s new commissions, Stream of Consciousness and Sketches of Flames, as well as Alvin Ailey’s signature masterpiece, Revelations.

Vermont Stars Come out for Lost Nation Theater in “LNT-Aid” Nov. 17

An all-star concert to benefit Montpelier’s theater company will feature, in alphabetical order, actor and writer Rusty DeWees, singer-songwriter Jon Gailmor, bluesman Dave Keller, stand-up comic Maggie Lenz, physical comedian Tom Murphy and singing raconteur George Woodard in concert. Soundman Bennett Shapiro of MadTech Sound will provide the audio engineering. Tom Moog of Sweet Melissa’s will supply the cash bar.

Montpelier City Hall Arts Center is again transformed into a 1940’s broadcast studio as five versatile actors and a busy sound effects wizard bring Frank Capra’s classic to life in front of a live studio audience (that’s you!).

See the small ensemble create hundreds of characters, and the sound of everything from crickets to cars, to door slams to sirens in front of your very eyes. Great for the whole family!

All tickets: just $10 (advance); $15 (day of/door). Plus each child (11 & under) per accompanying paying adult is Free! (Infants & Toddlers are not admitted to the theater.)
