Every second Sunday from 2-5 at Christ Episcopal Church in Montpelier out of the Sacred Harp. Shape note music is a participatory a capella singing form that originated in New England 225 years ago and has been sung in Central Vermont for the past 40 or so years by folks intrigued by the history of the form and those moved by the haunting harmonies and spiritual nature of the words. ‘Shape Note’ refers to the notation style which uses shapes in the place of round notes, which was originally a teaching device for learning to sight read music. Anyone is welcome, regardless of singing experience.

The Friends of the Plainfield Town Hall Opera House are pleased to announce the first performance in our new concert series by the group Pete’s Posse at the Plainfield Opera House in Plainfield, Vermont.

Pete’s Posse is a trio of acclaimed musicians including Pete Sutherland (fiddle, piano, banjo, melodica and vocals), his talented protégé Oliver Scanlon (fiddle, viola, mandolin, foot percussion and vocals) and the uber-dynamic Tristan Henderson (guitars, mandolin, jaw harp, foot percussion and vocals). Pete’s Posse is three generations of musicians who have come together to create their own electrifying sound they call “multi-generational roots music.” The steady flow of powerful uplifting energy across the age gap is the engine that drives Pete’s Posse, and it shows no sign of letting up!

The concert is Sunday, January 28 at 4:00pm.

Tickets are available through tickets.Catamountarts.org (CatamounTix) or at the door.

General Admission: $15, Seniors $10, Students $5, Special Rate $5

The Eleva Chamber Players, Central Vermont’s only professional string chamber orchestra, will present a free concert on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Vermont State House in Montpelier as part of the Farmers Night Concert Series.  The program will include works by Mozart, John Rutter, Michael Close and some tantalizing tangoes.  Admission is free.

The Eleva Chamber Players was established in April of 2006 in Waterbury, Vermont with the mission of elevating the human spirit through music.  Eleva’s concerts feature fine musicianship and fascinating dialogue that is both educational and inspiring.  The conductor-less orchestra is composed of professional musicians with distinguished international careers from throughout Vermont and the Northeastern United States.  In addition to its annual November concerts, Eleva has conducted concert tours of Vermont wineries and house concerts around the country.
