    Pipe Dreams 5,” the next set of Vermont Virtuosi concerts, will feature the back-by-popular-demand fifth public performance of Vermont’s only professional flute choir. The Vermont Virtuosi Flute Ensemble comprises seven of the finest orchestral and solo flutists from New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont performing on five different flutes, from the petite piccolo to the colossal contrabass. The concert will include transcriptions of works by Bernstein, Vivaldi, Doppler, Debussy, Gershwin, and Leroy Anderson as well as original works by Vermont composers David Gunn and Dennis Bathory-Kitsz—whose piece was commissioned by Vermont Virtuosi. The members of the flute ensemble are Robin Cameron-Phillips, Hilary Goldblatt, Alison Hale, Anne Janson, Melissa Mielens, Norman Thibodeau, and ensemble director and Vermont Virtuosi artistic director Laurel Ann Maurer.

    The concerts will take place in three locations:

    • Friday, Sep. 30, 7:30 p.m., First Baptist Church, 81 St. Paul St., Burlington, Vt.
    • Saturday, Oct. 1, 7:30 p.m., St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 16 Bradley Ave., Brattleboro, Vt.
    • Sunday, Oct. 2, 3:00 p.m., Unitarian Church, 130 Main St., Montpelier, Vt.

    Admission is free at the Burlington and Montpelier venues (donations—suggested $10, general; $5, seniors and students—are welcome), and $15/10 at Brattleboro. The Brattleboro concert is being produced by Friends of Music at Guilford with generous grants from Brannen Brothers Flutemakers and Vernon Q. Powell Flutes, with additional support from the Vermont Trust Company.
